I am attempting to unravel my family of Glendennings from abt 1770 to 1900. If you have have anybody with the above surnames anywhere in your tree please send me the details and I will see where they fit it. As long as they are from the Yorkshire area. This is to see if my theory that they all stem from a tiny group of Scots Glendennings that moved down to Yorkshire over the 1700's. Thatnks in advance to anyone that takes the time to either read and/or respond to this.
with regards, Sarah

Hi Sarah,
I descend from a John GLENDEN(N)ING (1769-1829) who married in Middleton Tyas in 1790 and had children baptised at Barton St. Mary, Barton St. Cuthbert or over the border in Darlington.  The Darlington baptisms describe John as a native of Carlisle.  I can give you further information if you think it would help.
Regards, Julie

sarahe,  Try the Wakefield/Pontefract areas for Glendennings.  There were 2-3 of them in the old West Riding Constabulary.  A Tony Glendenning joined in 1961, following in his father's footsteps, so he will be in his sixties. WRC headquarters were in Wakefield, but I believe there was a Pontefract connection with the family.

Hi Sarah
If you put 'Glendenning family history Yorkshire' in Yahoo, Google and other search engines there is a few interesting items coming up! as General.

If you want to have more help with your own direct family history? I would suggest giving exact details of your wants/needs! also names of your ancestors and dates needed! these people as members of rootschat will start helping if they have something to chew on so to speak! otherwise people will read and pass it by. (See numbers of members  who have read this thread at the top of this page)

Best advice! I can help you with!

Dave

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Hi Sarah,

Following up on 'Pityackafromblyth's line, there are seven Glendennings here;

http://www.wakefield.gov.uk/CommunityAndLiving/BereavementServices/GenealogySearches/BurialRegisterspre1986/default.htm?forenames=&surname=glendenning&match=like&action=search

You could also try entering the alternate spellings.

Hope this is of interest,

David

Hi David
I've just been looking at dates Sarah posted ;- first this thread was 2005 with no reply from Sarah-;-2nd her last posted  thread or reply on Rootschat was 2008 on her profile page thus maybe a waste of time replying to this thread.
