Withers/Tipton family St Paul Bristol

After a year researching my fathers family I discovered that I had researched the wrong Withers family I now have my correct great great grandfather William Withers born 1843 in St Paul Bristol and My great great grandmother was Ann Tipton. I cannot however find any birth records for William Withers and I think his father was Edward born 1801. I have hit a wall and wondered if anyone can help

Where did you get Ann's maiden name from as there is no marriage on freebmd between an Ann Tipton and a William Withers

If they are the 1881 family with a 15yr old son Henry born Lanarkshire - then they may have married in Scotland

I have just done a basic search on SP and there is a match for their marriage in 1865

SP is a paysite so you need to buy credits to view the entry.  It will give you a lot more info than an English marriage cert.  Scottish marriage certs show both parents names plus mothers maiden name

Thanks for your help, I had thought that they married in Scotland but couldn't find anything on ancestry.com. I didn't know about SP so thanks very much for that.

I have looked on SP but it keeps coming back as no match I discovered Ann Tipton via her son George Withers ( My great grandfather ) marriage certificate when it stated that his father's occupation was a chainmaker, so it was pur luck I found my Withers family at all.

I am assuming William went to Glasgow to work in the docks and then moved back to Bristol where he was born to work in the docks.

Try searching on marriage for Ann Tipton 1865 - 1865 and no other information.  There is only one hit

I had registered, but it's ok now I got a hit just using William Withers  Thanks very much for your help and Linda too.

I am thinking looking at the record that they may have runaway to get married as Ann Tipton was only 18 and possibly pregnant!!!  ( scandal in the family  which could explain why all other children were born back in Bristol.
