Hi

I am doing some research into a family who moved from Scotland to Mancester (the Fraser family) I believe John Fraser was the head gardener for a family called 'Stadelbaur'. The lady I am researching this for believes they were a large industry in Manchester around 1900.

I have found Stadelbauer and Co a shipping merchant of this time, but can't find very much information on the company at all --- any help would be great!

There was a company called that wound up in Manchester in January 1966.....

In the 1901 Census there is a Henry Stadelbauer in Broad Oak,  Wilmslow Road, Didsbury, he was an Exporter/Importer, with seven children and three servants.

Broad Oak was a large house in its own grounds, if you go to

In Slater's Manchester, Salford & Suburban Directory, 1909, Stadelbauer & Co. were at 50 Bloom Street, Manchester, they dealt in textiles to markets in Central & South America, and the East & West Indies.

The posts on Stadlebauer are rather old, but this may be of interest. My father worked for Stadlebauer from about 1920 until the war (1939). He was their representative in Central America and the company was importing cotton.  Henry Stadlebauer was from Germany and he married Emily Leigh Prestwich who would have been my great grandaunt.
At the time of the first world war, when having a German name could have been embarrassing, the family changed their name to Prestwich.
Regrettably I am not in touch with any of my Prestwich relatives from this family.
I can provide more information (but not much more) should this still be of interest.

Hi there

I am a descendent of the Prestwich/Stadelbaur family.  My grandfather was Otto Stadelbaur who I think was Henry’s brother.

Would be delighted to link up.
