Well it looks like that there is only one Albert John Sidwell Davis, he just did not know his DOB or where he was born, par for the course in genealogy.

Thanks to everyone for you help (somewhat confusing), so far. Firstly 'Jack' suffered with chronic breathing problem during his life, so he did survive the gassing. I have his short birth cert, that shows his d.o.b. as 1897. Jack did die in Staffordshire on 15 Apr 1961, but there was no will as his wife Nellie had to go through probate at Birmingham, in june 1961, to inherit his estate of £12,516.

I have previously looked at the Field Artillery record for Albert John DAVIS, but that is the wrong one, as the next if kin indicates a mother (of the wrong name) and his was deceased. The information about him joining the Canadian Regiment No. 175 in 1914 is useful, but although he moved to the Birmingham area when very young, he was born in Gloucestershire. The information about Albert DAVIS and Frances Catherine KINGSFORD being his parents are correct. I'll check out the possible attestation paper thanks.

HI Telfordmoz

I agree something is not right with the Albert John DAVIS as I two noticed his next of kin is not his mother Frances Catherine
but I have just been looking at a tree on line and it mentions that he went to Canada because his mother died and his father had remarried  :-\
he went to live with his Aunt Jessie
I was just about to look for a marriage for his father and a death for his mother
it may help to prove if it is him or not

as for Canada ww1 service record it does mention he had previously severed

give me a min and I will see if I can find anything  :)

Sorry I miss understood when you mentioned gassing as he had died
my mistake  :-[

Hi

If you compare both the English and the Canadian Army records, the description differs one has brown eyes and brown hair, and the other as blue eyes and fair hair.
