Samuel Jones (Sunderland)

Hi All,

Sam Jones married Elizabeth Carruthers in Sunderland about 1904.  Sam a mariner jumped ship in NZ, requested Elizabeth join him in Lower Hutt or he would stop her money, she joined him.  I believe there was a child also called Sam travelled with her.  My cousin visited them in Lower Hutt around 1939 to 41?  Any information or contact with this family would be greatfully appreciated.  Thanks.  Malcolm.

Can you give us any further information? Jones is a common name,did Elizabeth and Samuel have middle names and do you have approx years of birth for them,

Wonder if this is him on the 1905-1906 Electoral Roll for Wellington, Wellington Central .... Samuel Jones, S.S. Kahu, Chief Mate.

I see in the 1935 electoral roll free index ther might be a likely match,2 Samuel's a senior and a junior

Two entries for 1935 for the Wellington Roll Janette.  Elizabeth, Samuel Senior (a labourer) and Samuel Jnr (a driver) all living at 15 Elizabeth Street, Lower Hutt.

Hello Malclom

Have been able to locate Samuel, Elizabeth, Samuel junior (and his wife), on electoral rolls.

Up until 1957 (at least), they were all living at the same Lower Hutt address.

Haven't as yet been able to positively identify burial or cremation records for the parents, but such records would be of little help, as it's probably (by now), their grandchildren you'd need to locate.    

Likewise, unable to locate burial/cremation records for Samuel junior and wife in the area in which they last lived.   Both were still on rolls in 1981.
