Bill,
I have reference to a couple of Osbourne families including Michael & Ann with a son William christened in 1848 and daughter Alice christened in 1856. They owned section 1047/8 and 1072 Normanville.
Section 1072 is  very close to The Links where you were staying.
Section 1047/8 is indeed at the corner of Hayflat Road and Salt Creek Road. On the right hand side as you turn on to Salt Creek Road from Hay Flat Road.
I will try to scan my section map and email to you.

Hi Jennifer,
Unfortunately my Early Settlers of the District Book does not pinpoint the sections owned by Francis and Eliza Bowyer. They are mentioned with the note they had 3 children but no further detail other than Francis was a son of Thomas (a stonemason) & Mary. Thomas owned section 1173/4/5  which probably includes the area where The Visitor information Centre is Situated, Main Road Yankalilla and section 198 with house and shop Yankalilla. If my scan is successful I will email you a section map also.

Thank you Robyn, it is starting to come together.  Francis (Frank) was also a stonemason like his father and killed when a wall he was working on fell on him at Port Germain.  His wife had died after childbirth, that child and another had also died, leaving his only daughter, Jane, to be raised by other family members.

Jennifer

I have been doing some research on the Roads Family at Yankalilla/Normanville and wondered how your info had progressed...

one of my GGG Aunts is Clara Roads who married to Hugh Malthouse....

Your Frank would be Clara's brother...

I was interesteed in where your research had gone...

Cheers

Cheran :)

Hi Cheran, I haven't done much in the last couple of months- I tend to get into it during the school holidays (I am a teacher).  I started to source "To Find the Way" but the email link I was communicating via stopped working and I must admit, I forgot about it until just recently.  The really good thing about the Roads and Bowyer families in Yankalilla is that so much information has already been gathered - so any of my research is not ground-breaking stuff, but trying to  get a feel for the families and how they fitted into the community.

In "Roads Across the Ocean" there is very little about Frank Roads - at the time the book was compiled the author was not aware of my research and connection.

I have a photograph (probably wedding) of Jane nee Roads and her husband George Donald Perry if you would like me to send you a scanned image.  I find it particularly interesting to compare the faces in portraits to see what characteristics may have been passed down.  I have been led to believe that red-headedness and deafness are characteristics of the Roads family.  My grandfather, Fred, son of Jane nee Roads, was both.  Please stay in touch and I'll spread the contents of the file out on my dining table some time and go through it.

Happy to make your acquaintance,
Jennifer
