8th Hussars in 1909
« on: Tuesday 05 June 12 23:25 BST (UK) »
John Timpson born in Athy Ireland around 1885 and married there in 1909,  his occupation on his marriage cert was a solider in the 8th Hussars based at Colchester Essex.  No other information about him is known.  I have searched in the world war 1 records but not found anything.  Can anyone give me any clues where I can find any information  about his time in the Hussars

many thanks

 Hi Gortonboy
John Timpson was born in Athy Ireland  to parents Patrick Timpson and Mary Leonard In 1901 cenus he was living in Black Parts Athy Ireland with his parents and siblings.  He married 21/2/1909 t0 Julia whelan. Not in the Irish census for 1911

To be honest have not checked the English Census yet.  He was my great Uncle and I have only just found out about him. His occupation just took my fancy and I wanted to find out more.

thanks

now off to bed as it is nearly midnight.  Will check for any answers tomorrow.  :)

hi
have checked service /pension records and he,s not in those ,  but you could try here at www.nam.ac.uk/research/famous-units/8th-kings-royal-irish-hussars  , on the home page is the history of the reg and you can contact them to see what data they may have , but most service records were destroyed by the regiments after i believe 20yrs  apart from the guards reg,s who still have there own records  but worth asking .
hope this helps
