Looking for Walter Jones of Wales and Alberta
« on: Saturday 21 May 05 18:46 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for information on the family of Walter JONES (possible middle name Griffith) b. 1890, +/- 10 years, in Wales. I have no further information on location within Wales. He lived in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada for a short time where he fathered a son, Clifford Allen JONES, b. 1926, with Laura Edith ROWLAND. We are not certain if they were ever married.

We believe he returned to Wales where he lived out the remainder of his life.

Searching the boards on another site, I did come across a Walter JONES b. 1871 in Merthyr, Glamorgan who  married Mary Perkins GRIFFITHS b. 1871 in Merthyr and d. 1896. I confirmed their births in the 1881 Census.  I cannot find any information on the children of this couple but suspect they could be the parents of the Walter JONES I'm looking for...

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Isn't this interesting.  I'm looking for more info on my husbands grandmother Florence Mary Jones born in Cardiff appx. 1893, who's father was David Jones and mother Elizabeth Ann Rowlands.  Not sure when the family immigrated to Canada, but Florence married in Vancouver BC in 1919.

Lorraine,

Very interesting indeed... I just looked at my ROWLAND family for an Elizabeth and there is not one in my immediate family but going back several generations there were a lot of ROWLAND siblings who could easily be the parents or grandparents of the Elizabeth you mention.

Do you think your David JONES could have been a brother to my Walter JONES Sr?

I have just today discovered that David Jones immigrated to Canada Sept 1909 and his daughter ended up in Vancouver BC where she married my husbands grandfather.  David was 44 on the ship registry, so he must have been born about 1865.  They could be realated or both the Jones and Rowland(s) names could just be common names and a co-incidence that the Jones both married Rowlands.  I'm in Canada so not sure about Wales.

I know this is an older query, but the freebmd now has this and one other birth...the other is accounted for with a death...it is a shame that you have no documentation on the father from a marriage. Tough break in the searching department...Maybe someone can see if this fellow is accounted for on the census..
