Devlin/McCormick

My gr-gr-gr-grandfather Arthur D. McCormick was born in Antrim or Antrim County in 1804.  He may have changed his name from Devlin to McCormick when he boarded ship for America to avert serving in the Queens Army or going AWOL?   Whether this is fact, I do not know.  Hope this is not true.  Would there be a website for these type of situations?  If there are any Devlin or McCormick descendants in Ireland who may relate to either of these families I would be very interested in hearing from you.

Are there any Irish census for either 1820 or 1830, specifically Antrim or Antrim County?  I am looking for my ggg-grandfather Arthur Devlin.  He was born 1813/1814.  Father's name could be Charles which is the name of Arthur's first son who was born in the U.S.  Thanks for any help

I am looking for birth or baptismal records for my 3rd gr-grandfather Arthur Devlin or McCormick born in 1813 or 1814 in either Rasharkin or Ballymacrevan in Antrim.  I am not sure which name is his birth name.  He was known by McCormick in USA but rumor has it that it was changed from Devlin.  We think both names were in the family in Ireland.  If anyone is researching these families or knows the names of the Catholic churches  I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Churches keep baptism records (birth records are civil ones) although sometimes a date of birth or age will be listed in a register. Many churches will not have records pre-1850. Rasharkin's records only go back to 1848:

I can't believe what you are telling me.  You have confirmed  a rumor that has been in the family for years but we had nothing to confirm it.  We heard that Arthur had either deserted or evaded the Army by jumping on a ship for America.  I have a passenger list with the name of Arthur  Devlin but couldn't confirm it was him.  We think the McCormick name he assumed in the US was his grandmother's but that is only an assumption.  Can you tell me if there are any MCormick's living in Drummaul around the 1830's? He left  from Liverpool to New York where he eventually settled in NJ. Age is off by a couple of years and it says he was a weaver.  Is that the same description of someone working with yarn as we know it?

Thank you for all your help.  Do you think the National Archives.uk would have anymore information in Arthur Devlin's file.  It seems if the Army was looking for a deserter they would have his parents names in his file and an address.  At this time I can't pin any of the Devlins to him without his father's name.
