Hi there Irish research is all new to me I am looking for the birth of ancestor Joseph BEST born 1815 he died in Tasmania 1875. There are postings on Ancestry saying he was born in Ireland but I want to check this first? Thanks for any advice!

Joseph birth is well before the start of civil records in Ireland, and also a little too early for many parish records. Trees published online are not always properly verified, so unless the details have been properly documented it's usually better to do your own research. The best place to start would be with later records for your Joseph - i.e. his marriage and death records etc..

My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?
