There is a Griffith's Valuation listing for a Daniel McGrogan living in the townland of Coolkeeran. There is unlikely to be a double a in the middle of this placename. There is only one townland in Antrim where the spelling includes 'aa.'
Thank you so much Sonas I think you may be on to something! I never did find a death cert for Patrick McGrogan in Scotland, I know he died between 1860-1870. Have just found a death that may be him in Ballymoney in 1867, now need to order a photocopy from the GRO to confirm.
