Saltisford, Warwick

I have drawn a blank looking for my grandfather on the 1911 census. His name was Frederick Law and on his marriage certificate in April 1911 his address is 36, Saltisford, Warwick. I cant find anything using a name search or an address search. Any help appreciated.  ???

Hi - look up Edward Church in Warwick - Fred is recorded as "Brother", presumably to wife Emma.

No  - Emma is "Emma Muddeman" on marriage to Edward in 1910 but could be a second marriage. Fred may be recorded as "Lam".  Perhaps it is "Boarder" rather than "Brother" !

I dont have a 1911 census subscription at the moment but will have a look in the library tomorrow.  :)

Just checked, Fred did not have a brother Edward or a sister Emma????
I am perplexed to say the least!

Fred is recorded as "San" on two systems and "Lam" on another. Since he is recorded as born Northampton, Edward in London and Emma in Warwick, I think "Boarder" is perhaps a more likely interpretation of the sqiggle !

Sorry for being dim but what do you mean by him being, San and Lam and where do I need to look, Im still a relative newcomer to this.

Morning Lorraine - with computer databases, you can only find what is there - not what should be there !

When the handwriting  on a census return is not very clear -  someone  trying to type  the information into a database can often get it wrong. In the case of Frederick, his surname has been typed in as "Lam" on one site and as "San" on  the official 1911census database and another popular site.

If you look for Edward Church in Warwick- you will find Frederick at the same address.

Thank you for explaining, as I said I am still a beginner (2 years) and always welcome help and advice from more knowledgable people. This has baffled me for a while, my grandfather was 41 when he married my gran who was much younger so I never knew him so I am trying to build up a picture of him. I will go to the library tomorrow, I have been too busy today.
