He would seem to have been retired by 1861 as he is listed as the Gate Keeper for Oak Park, living in Oak Park Lodge

He is listed as a private in the 1847 birth record (looks like it)

It would depend if she was 'on the strength' ie recognised by the regiment. If you can find one child born overseas then the answer would be 'yes' - until boys were 14 and girls 16.
Note: Ireland was not overseas.
