Hello,

I am a new member and I can see there has been some discussion a few years ago about this family but I would be interested if there are any new links or even relatives!

I am the descendant of John Doherty born circa 1817, d 1912. His wife was Alice nee Kelly. I cannot find him in Griffiths. The only Doherty in Breenagh in Griffiths is Madge Doherty and I cannot establish if John is related to her. John and Alice had many children. I don't think I have all their names as they were born before civil registration and not all the church records are available. They definitely had a son, James born circa 1852 who emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1869. Another son, Patrick born circa 1851 stayed in Breenagh and had 13 children. All except one of Patrick's children left Breenagh and went around the world. I have all the names of Patrick's children if required.

Hi,
I have Doherty's from Breenagh on my family tree.
I have a James Doherty (1880) married to Bridget Gallagher (my great grandmother's sister)
I don't have any information further back though on the Doherty side so I'm not sure if it will help
James and Bridget had 10 children.

Thanks for the information. I don't have, as yet, a James Doherty born in 1880. You say he married a Gallagher. I also have Gallaghers in my family. Where was she from?

Bridget Gallagher was the daughter of Edward Gallagher (1852) and Annie McGinley (1849).
They lived in an area near Breenagh called Altaduis.
Edward's father was called Patrick Gallagher from Glendowan and his mother was Bridget.
They had four children that I know about including Edward.  The others names were James and John both went to Scotland and Mary who married Bernard Boyle.  They also lived in Altaduis.

That's a pity. My Gallagher relations came from Drumnasham(m)er. I'll keep searching for James.
In your research, did you find a connection to Madge Doherty? She is the only one mentioned in Griffiths.

Bernard Boyle and Mary Gallagher from Altadush were my great great grandparents Their son came here (Scotland) in around 1900, and married Agnes Meanen in St. Francis' RC Church, Glasgow. They spoke Irish and English. My dad used to visit often when he was a child, and remembers staying with May Gallagher, who used to run the post office in Church Hill, next to Glendowan. I went there myself in 2010. I would love to hear from anyone who has Bernard and Mary on their tree, to compare notes!
