Hit a very annoying brick wall!
I have a John Fisher who I can find from 1861-1881 on the census as follows;
1861 John Fisher married to Ann born 1821 Cantley, Yorkshire Brewers Labourer living in Sheffield
1871 John Fisher married lodging in Mexborough with George and Mary Ramsden born 1822 Ankerley (think supposed to be Auckley nr Cantley) labourer – Mary Ramsden also born Ankerley (Auckley)
1881 John Fisher married to Ann born 1821 Okaly (Auckley) Carter living in sheffield.
Age is consistence and although spelt badly place of birth is consistent, Cantley is a village close by to Auckley, but I could not find John on any baptism record not sure how well this area is covered) or on any previous census. I thought is was a coincidence that the lady he was lodging with also came from Auckley being such a tiny place but think after tracing backwards she was Mary Lambert, thought she might be an Aunt but can’t find a marriage of a William Fisher to a Lambert.
Out of desperation I sent off for John fisher’s marriage certificate and it arrived last night. Details are as follows;
John Fisher bachelor age 27 married Ann Roby 21 September 1851, Parish Church Sheffield. Address married from Eyre Street occupation Mason, father William Fisher occupation Farmer. I spent all night and some of this morning trying to trace, John’s and Williams – nothing! The only Fisher I can find also born or stating born Auckley is a Sarah Fisher (born 1812) Servant in 1851. I tired John Fishers who were masons on the 1851 census, I tried Johns living Eyre Street 1851 nothing. I keep thinking I’ve tried the obvious things – I even tried looking up Nottingham as it is on the borders of Auckley but still nothing.
Can anyone help me out there before I go mad
Kind Regards
Debs
