Sunderland occupations
« on: Monday 28 May 12 22:30 BST (UK) »
Hi, Is it possible to find where my Great Grandfather (Thomas Todd) would have worked. On my Grandmothers Birth cert 1906. his occupation was a Ships Rivetter another cert. said left hand Rivetter also Journeyman?. one son was a ships carpenter and 2 others were shipyard boilermen. The home address was 30 Henry Street Sunderland, again it would be brilliant if I could find if the house still stands and where it is.I am only guessing the house may have been built for workers. All information is helpful
Parkin, Horden Colliery,Durham?
Todd, Ships Rivetters,Sunderland?

Rogers, Pridgeon and Southon of London?

As a rivetter in a Sunderland shipyard then one possibility is Austin & Pickersgill.

Henry Street no longer exists, and nor do the houses in Henry Street East, see the Google aerial view at http://goo.gl/maps/FXKM Henry Street was to the west of Henry Street East.
Go to http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html?coords=440800,556700 and look at the 1919 1:2500 map
There were many shipyards in Sunderland at that time, the nearest one to Henry Street was Bartram & Sons  in the South Docks http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bartram_%26_Sons

Hi, I am researching the Todd tree as its my husbands. Thomas Todd was his great grandfather too. his grandfather was John Edward, Ethels brother.
