Maidstone Burials 1895
« on: Saturday 26 May 12 15:09 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am trying to find the burial record for my gt grandmother Harriet Startup died 18 May 1895 aged 26/7 Hunton, any help greatly appreciated , her husbands name was George and they lived at Jefferies Cottage and Foxpitts .

As she died at Maidstone hosp I think maybe she was buried at Maidstone cemetery.

Hi Petles,

I've checked my CD of Hunton burials 1813-1928 but nothing for Harriett in 1895; presumably she was buried elsewhere. If she wasn't born in Hunton she may have been buried at her birthplace.

Did find the following Startup burials for around that time though, in case they are of interest:

24 Jan 1893 James STARTUP (66yrs)

16 Nov 1895 Fred STARTUP (9mths)

If you need anything more from the Hunton bmd do let me know.

Mrs. T.

P.S. Presume STARTUP was her married name, and not her maiden?

Hi ,

Many thanks for looking, she actually died in the West Kent General Hospital, but as she was living in Hunton with her husband and children I thought she would probably have been buried there as her family stayed there until 1898 and then the children went to live in Loose with their grandmother as their father was ill, I have tried Loose , Linton and B. Monchelsea burials, but nothing there either, so I am really stuck now!!

Yes Startup was her married name , her maiden name was Coulter. From the census she is recorded as born in East Farleigh.

I'll carry on having a 'root around' but hopefully someone on here with more experience than me will come up trumps!
Good luck,

By that date, many people were buried in local borough cemeteries rather than local churchyards so I would suggest that Maidstone Cemetery may be an option if she actually died in Maidstone.  As you have the full name and death details they may well check for you http://www.maidstone.gov.uk/community_and_living/deaths,funerals_and_cremations/funeral_-_records.aspx
