Hi there Bindy68.

I don't think I arrived in Ashford until early 47, so may not have met your Dad§ However the times would have been the same and I would be pleased to send on The Book Blitz Kids if you both understand that the book covers my experiences through the war, then at several other homes to finally being dumped at Ashford. Hoever, there is also a fairly substantial contribution by the late Frank Gorman who was there for many years preceeding and during my stay.

Hoping tohear again.

Hi fredrickay,

My dad was also in this home and i did my research a couple of years ago. The records I found were at the London Archives 40 Northampton Road Clerkenwell. (Nearest underground Farringdon). They had information on microfilm rolls and also had some of the original ledgers there (punishment book, sickness book etc - about 5 in total I believe). If I remember I doesn't cost anything but you have to sort of register when you get there. Take yourself some food and drink if you intend staying a while as although they have an 'eating area' there is not much available other than drink machines (was when I went). Hope this helps, good luck.

Hi

You can search their catalogue here

http://search.lma.gov.uk/scripts/mwimain.dll/144/LMA?LOGONFORM

use the search term "Ashford residential", there are lots of results, some are original documents which you will need to order once you have your readers ticket sorted.

Hope this helps.

Hi there!

I'm not sure if this is of any interest to anyone but my mother was at Ashford Residential School until she was adopted in 1937, aged 3 yrs. Her name was Valerie. I have recently obtained a copy of her adoption records via the London Metropolitan Archives (in accordance with Adoption Act legislation). I was told the file contained the names of all the pupils who were at the school at the time but their details have been removed for confidential reasons. If anyone has any information or photos they can share with me from around that time I would be most grateful. Regards. Graham
