Hi all,
I think if i can give you all my trail history regarding George and Jane, starting with a few people whom i know to be dead-certs (no pun intended).
My father John's father was Ralph b.1886-d.1938 he was a coal merchant in Newcastle, his father was George (Heckels)Douglas b.1860 in South Shields. The "Heckels" part comes from his Mother,Isabella's maiden name, why he inherited this middle name i'm not sure but his older brother Matthew b.1853  had the same " Heckels" in his full title.
George (1828)married Isabella in 1852 in South Shields, she died in 1869 and George went on to marry Ann Tiplady in 1872 in Jarrow.
Peggy, you will in fact have George as a widower in the 1871 census but is he the one living at Harton Colliery Double Row,Harton,Co.Durham along with his children and the eldest being Matthew(heckels) 18,Isabella 13,George(heckels) 11,Sarah Ann 8 and youngest son Joseph 5.
This is where the trail goes a bit sticky,my George's (1828) father was definitely named George as i have this on his Marriage certificate to Isabella Heckels.Maybe i have gone wrong tracing back from there and found a George with parents George and Jane and took it for granted that this was the same family, there are so many George's involved here it is so frustrating.
Peggy,i'm not sure if this helps clear things up a little in your search and your mind and hope it hasn't confused you as much as it has me.

Any more help would be appreciated before i lose my mind !!!!!

Kind Regards,

Bykerlad.

Hi Bykerlad,
It seems we do have 2 Georges at the same time with mine born abt. 1800 and marrying Jane Meggison and yours marrying Isabella and Ann.  the George that I found in 1871 is mine, as he is living with his daughter Margaret, son George born 1849, and Margaret's children George Donkin and Ellen.  Margaret married David Donkin who I have died before 1881 but not sure when.  My George is living in South Gosforth in 1871.
It looks like your George was also a widower in 1871 if Isabella died in 1869. Your trail seems to be yourself, John, Ralph, George born 1828, and another George born?? who must be different than my George as my George was married Apr 1833 when your George was only 5.  Your George's father George could possibly be the same George as mine born 1800 agewise, but the rest doesn't fit for George and Jane to be his parents.  Your George married in 1852 when my George and Jane were still married and his son George was born 1849 whereas your George married in 1852.  Definitely 2 lines going on here.
Hope you can follow my reasoning which is supported by my very important letter of 1844 written by Jane's father Robert Meggison.

Hi Bykerlad,
On familysearch, I just found a marriage for Isabella Heckels to George Douglas on Jan 11, 1852 in St. Hilda's Church, South Shields.  My George, age 61, born Earsdon, was still married to Jane Meggison in 1861 and they were in South Gosforth where George was a colliery overlooker. My George had children Jane, Robert George, and George (age 12) still at home.
