Can anyone help with a look up please on 1851 - 1861 Census

James Albert Coward b.? School Teacher/Master died between 1862 - 1871
Sarah Coward [b. 1805] Kennington. widow in 1871 living Southwalk with Emily Caroline Boyton [daughter]
Children [the ones I have so far]
James Coward b. 1840 Chelsea
Emily Caroline Coward b. 1843 Chelsea
 
Any help much appreciated

Looks like James is already dead by the 1861 census

Thanks Kris, it looks as if her son James was living in that house in 1891.

House must have been in the family... Funny Chris...Can't find a James to suit on the census....Kris

They were a very funny family where names were concerned, John seems to be interchangeable with James and they often used their middle name instead of the given name. John seems to be the right age for James.

I don't suppose there is anyone named DELAYER living nearby. either a Amelie or Joseph born France.

Not having much luck there Chris...Can't come up with a Joseph or Amelie The nearest is a family headed by J F b France  in Wimbleton Surrey wife Aime b West Indies  ... Kids all b France.....Kris

They could be connected, I don't have much info on Amelie, all I have is:

James Coward b. 1840 married Amelie Therese Adele Delayer b. 1833 Boulogne France on 15 Jul 1862 Wimbledon Parish Church.

Joseph Delayer - Hairdresser
Emily Caroline Coward

Looking at the marriage cert I think maybe they have copied the info for James father wrongly as they have James as a School Master and the same for his father no notes about him being deceased.

This certainly looks to be the right family then Chris. Who knows what the accent may have been like. Looks like  the enumerator may have had a hard time understanding their names

I can't make anything of it at the moment maybe J. F. Delayer was a brother to Amelie, do you have access to the 1871 census?
