Got some info but more required please
« on: Thursday 24 May 12 11:50 BST (UK) »
Help please:

Here are 2 photos of a group of lads (one of which is a relation but I don’t know which - yet)  – the first photo is the earliest I think as in the second photo the group is virtually the same chaps but they look older and more ‘worn’.

I know the regiment is the Prince of Wales Own West Yorkshire Regiment, but can anyone tell me any more detail about them i.e. what battalion etc as I know you can see the shoulder side cloth emblem but I am not that knowledgeable?

Also notice the Horse shoes wrong way up on the hut – all the luck falls out, you would have thought they would have altered that.

The first photo is certainly no earlier than 1918 (overseas service chevrons sported by the sergeant) and possibly 1919 judging by his medals.

I would say the other way round for what it's worth.

What are the crossed stripes on the left fore arm on the Sergeant and the 1st man from right sat down mean?

They don't to me look like rifles which would mean Marksman, but I could be wrong?

Am I right in thinking the sergeant has no hand  below that wound stripe?

Can nobody help on the shoulder markings or would you need to have the colours?

Ive checked British Divisional Patches and cant see a match
There is a link in Armed Forces Resources board on here "scrimnet " put it on.
I suspect its a Brigade patch and posibly 93rd Infantry Brigade but having difficulty finding one.

Well spotted - i have had a close look at the original photo and yes his hand is missing - there seems to be some sort of prosthetic extention attached but its not that clear to see.
No doubt that's why he has the wound stripe.
