Any information of Michael O'Connor of County Clare.
Journeyed with sister Bridget (later Bridget Hoare married to Patrick Hoare)
went to Van Dieman's Land-later Tasmania. Departed 1854 on ship Maitland ex-Plymouth.

Do you know of any other siblings or where your O'Connor family is from? My GGG Grandmother is an Anne O'Connor Fitzpatrick. A Bridget O'Connor was a sponsor for one of her daughters in 1849 as well as the name of her eldest daughter. My family is from the Clarecastle parish, townlands Ballyea. There is a tie to a Patrick Kennedy as he is a sponsor to 2 of the girls.

Hi Indigrl,

Afraid I have very little info on the O'Connors. My cousin has a large Family Bible(R. Catholic with Apocrapha included) but there are no written records. Apart from knowing he came from Co.Clare. I found the shipping details from Tasmania Archives. Michael was a plough boy who went on to be a farmer near Launceston, Tasmania and a man of property but nothing known of his early life. He would have been born around 1820 but nothing definite there either.

Hello Hyjean, Well being from Co.Clare and about the right age to be my GGG Grandmother Anne's siblings, that and we're both looking for a Bridget. What do you know about Bridget's Husband, Patrick Hoare (think I spelt that wrong). Are there any indications he has roots in Ireland, not nessacarily Co.Clare. I feel very strongly Anne and her Husband stayed in Co. Clare. Though, I want to say I made a note that I got the vibe a Bridget O'Connor immigrated to Australia or New Zealand, but I got side tracked. Give me a day or two to go through my O'Connor - Fitzpatrick research. If you would like my personal email leave me a private message. Hello I,

Went to send P.M but off line at present.

I'm in West Australia and so will see if Clare records are on-line.

Actually Michael O'Connor is probably not a blood relative of ours. He immigrated on Maitland as a ploughboy.

Michael married Bridget Cassidy who is my forebear- 2nd marriage for her and possibly for him. If you check out this name on Topics Bridget Cassidy you'll find out what I know- which is not a lot. Her Death Certificate just says Born Ireland. Do not have his details although there is a photo of him in my cousin's possession-in back of aforementioned Bible. Bridget Hoare(nee O'Connor) died at Michael's home in Launceston She died 14/8/ 1879 aged 70 as a widow of Patrick Hoare so that means born 1809. Michael died 14/10/1881- by drowning. He was 54 in 1874 when he married Bridget Cassidy.which makes him 61 at time of death and birth year around 1820.

Hope this is of some use.

 I have almost given up on tracing Bridget Cassidy as even her daughter my gt g/motherGertrude Bridget Cassidy did not have a birth certificate in mid 1850's.Such was the frontier nature of the colony.
