Hodgsons of Beverley war memorial.
« on: Friday 18 May 12 21:01 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Does anyone know what happened to the Hodgsons Roll of honour?. If I understood correctly in a book in the Hull history centre it used to be in the Army transport museum. Obviously the museum has now closed and was wondering what happened to the roll of honour.

Would realy like to see it as I believe my g grandfather may be listed on it.

Many thanks
Kev.

Hi Carol,

Many thanks for the link, now not sure which one it is, but certainly not the one in the army museum (sure it said it was there in the book in the history centre). Think I may have to have a look at the one in St Mary's next time I'm in Beverley. Should be popping there soon as also going to have a look at the main war memorial nearby as apparently he's also listed on that one as well.

Many thanks
Kev.

It's this one...It doesn't appear to have individual names listed:

Hi again & many thanks for your help.

Now wondering if it's this one that I saw listed in the History Centre (wonder why it didn't come up in my search ??? the first time I looked)
http://www.ukniwm.org.uk/server/show/conMemorial.34745/fromUkniwmSearch/1

If so wonder if it's still in the building?

Think I will have to have another trip to the History centre to check the details once again.

Regards
Kev.

Hello Kev

My great grandfathers name is also on the same memorial, C J Watts, the last but one. My grandfather, Charles Watts was invited to re-dedicate the memorial in 1986 if my memory serves me right. As you can imagine it was an emotional event for him. I've attached a couple of photo's of the event. I don't know if you are aware but the is a replica memorial on the rear wall of the war memorial gardens alongside St Mary's church in Hengate. It's a bit of a long shot but I have several photo's of my great grandfather taken in the early part of WW1 and also an almanac showing pictures of those who fell in the service of their country who came from Beverley which I'd be more than happy to share with you.

Hi Simon,

Many thanks for the info, funnily enough visited the Hengate memorial yesterday afternoon (21st) as he's also commemorated on the main one there. Took a few photos whilst there, did see the one on the rear wall and he's not listed on that one? bit of a puzzle, will have to go back to the History centre and take another look in the book to check exactly which memorial he's supposed to be commemorated on.

It was by chance I found the book in the History centre with memorial listings as I was only passing time whilst some documents were brought from the archives for me.

Would be most interested in your almanac, as you say a bit of a long shot but my g grandfahter was John Thomas Ibbertson who died 1917 from wounds at a casualty station around the time of Oppy Wood.
