Royal Marine in 1832
« on: Thursday 17 May 12 21:10 BST (UK) »
My x 2 Gt Grandfather Jeremiah Speck, was born in Minsterworth,  Gloucestershire.  His wife was called Mary, who was born Plymouth, Devon.
In 1832 my  Gt Grandfather was baptised John Speck,  in East Stonehouse. Which is near Plymouth.

I would be grateful to know if it's possible to find Jeremiah's record whilst being a Marine.  I know virtually nothing about how military records work, or even how to find them. Any help would be much appreciated of how to go about this.

Also within a few short years, Jeremiah was recorded as being a sailor, on later baptisms in the family.

Eventually the whole family returned to live in Gloucester.

Many thanks

Barbara

I've not had any experience of looking for Marines from that far back, looks like it'll be a fascinating challenge - good luck!

Good evening,

Perhaps someone can move this thread to the armed forces board. You will get a better response there for this subject.

Hi Barbara

I can't find any sign of Jeremiah Speck on the National Archive's site but have you seen this about Canal Pilots?
