Rippon in Lanchester
« on: Thursday 17 May 12 19:40 BST (UK) »
My ggg-grandfather Thomas Rippon was born in Lanchester, as was his father William.I think that Thomas died in Lancashire in the mid nineteenth century.Does anyone know where I can find out about their life in Lanchester, where they lived, their occupations and whether any Rippons still live in the area?. Hope someone can help.
                                   Thanks

hi,
Lanchester is a village in county Durham and was also the registration district for  the surrounding area.
so a birth showing Lanchester could be in any of the surrounding villages and towns.

coalmining was one of the main occupations in this area.

do you have any dates for birth/death of William and son Thomas

There are Rippons all over County Durham. Unfortunately Free BMD does not give much help on tracking them down in Lanchester, as apart from a false start in 1837 when the Lanchester Registration District started and disbanded in that same year, the Durham Registation District was the district where Lanchester residents were registered until 1875. The Durham registrations covered such a wide area that it impossible to tell who came from where! As Taffie suggests - more information please.

Hello Wayne

Some of my ancestors were Rippons of Iveston. They were farmers and their records are in Lanchester church parish registers. The period I have is 1717 to 1800.

Can you give me the details of the birth/marriage/death of William and son Thomas to see if I can link them into mine.
