Bushe in Annandale
« on: Thursday 17 May 12 19:37 BST (UK) »
Has anyone heard of a place called Bushe?

I have a Dumfries testament from 1680 of James Halliday in Bushe. I have narrowed it down to the Annandale district as there is mention of the Earl of Annandale in the testament. Precisely what it says in relation to the Earle i am unsure, we are still trying to figure out.

Bushe could perhaps be short for something. I have seen a Bargainbushe mentioned before.

Any ideas?

I am pretty sure that Bush was a cottage on Earl of Annandales estate in Johnstone parish.  Im sorry I dont have time to look further for you but hope this is a start.

Thanks Kama. That would make sense but i have checked old maps, googled, checked NAS and NRAS web searches but cant find anything obvious. I assume i might find something in estate papers of the Earle of Annandale but i don't have access to them (too far from Scotland). Any other ideas?
