Possible death for Elizabeth Ward: Registered Newry Oct – Dec 1880 Volume 1, page 563. Est year of birth 1850.

Marriage of William Ward and Mary Byrne was registered in Newry Oct – Dec 1881, Volume 1, page 1067.

No father's name in the records for either of William's 2 marriages, suggesting he was illegitimate.

there's a possible extracted birth for one child of William and Elizabeth on FamilySearch

  Name: Jane Ward
  Birth Date: 12 Dec 1874
  Birthplace: Ireland
Parents : William Ward & Elizabeth Hanna
  Ref :v 16 p 765

see : https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FPM1-Q8R

The extracted record doesn't include a specific location, but the references match an Index record for the same name in Newry registration district, which covers Warrenpoint.

I checked out the 1901 irish census for Ward in Warrenpoint and found over 30 Wards including a couple of William and several Mary , two appear to be living at the same address i.e. The square, but are not the right birth dates, however please use the source if you haven't already
good luck, JimG

There were two baptisms in Clonallon(Warrenpoint) parish for children of Wm Ward and Elizabeth Hanna who were married in 1873. There were (1) Jane baptised on 12/12/1874 and (2) Sarah baptised on 17/5/1878. On a quick check there are no baptism records for children to Wm Ward and Mary Byrns. Is it possible that Mary was from some other parish or place and that any baptisms would be registered there?

Tradition was for the marriage to be in the bride’s church and thereafter she’d attend her husband’s. So baptisms would be in his rather than hers. However that was not a universal rule, especially in the case of mixed marriages where sometimes the sons went to the husband’s and the daughters to the wife’s.

In some places it was the local custom for marriage to take place in 'bride's church' and thereafter couple attended 'husband's church' but their first child would be baptised in the church where the marriage took place (bride's church).

Also, women sometimes went back home to mother for birth of a child and then baptism might take place in bride's church if this was the case.
