Passenger Lists
« on: Thursday 17 May 12 03:15 BST (UK) »
ship arrival in Melbourne Philip Walsh.  My grandfather's brother went to Victoria on an Unassisted passage.  I have found 2 Philip Walsh  one arriving on Royal Standard 1865 and another Tornada 1863 they are similar ages.  The Philip I want came from Tipperary.  Is there anyone with access to these lists that can give me more info.  Much appreciated as I live in NZ. Many thanks
Sheba

Thats three just Today Sheba, The lists are on CD from Prov Victoria and are toooo expensive. I have thread on the board at the moment William Todd 1854 and Rosball has one as well.

We need to find someone with the CD's or someone that can go and get a pic of each record or a transcription.

Index to Assisted British Immigration 1839-1871. A search returns names, age, month, year and ship of arrival plus book and page number which refer to the passenger lists held on microfiche.
Index to Unassisted Inward Passenger Lists to Victoria 1852-1923. This database lists unassisted passengers to Victoria from British, Foreign and New Zealand Ports. A search returns name, title, age, arrival date, ship name and fiche reference to the relevant passenger list.
Index to Outward Passengers to Interstate, UK, NZ and Foreign Ports 1852-1915. This database of passengers on ships leaving Victoria returns names, ship name, departure month and year, destination, film references, age and page number. This ongoing project will eventually cover up to 1923.

A consolidated index to the Immigration to Victoria series of records is available on CD-ROM. Immigration to Victoria 1852-1879: Index to Inward Passenger Lists, British & Foreign Ports, Public Record Office Victoria and Macbeth Genealogical Services, Hampton Vic, 1999. 1 CD-ROM.  Over 490,000 unassisted arrivals to Victoria are listed. Passengers arriving on ships from New Zealand and assisted passengers from Britain are not included in this series.

So the CD is an index, and not the images ....  :(

And most of the geni societies naturally, purchase the CD.  SAGHS, when I was a member, said they were going to purchase the fiche, but don't know if that has happened.

The CD is for unassisted immigrant arrivals anyway.

assisted passengers from Britain are not included in this series.

Ancestry.com.au has some Victorian arrivals but I can't get the page to load.

Hi

Ancestry doesn't have the images of the passenger lists but it the case of the two Philip Walsh, Ancestry says both are Irish so that's no help.

On the Tornado arrived 2nd April 1863 were
Philip Walsh 22
Edward Walsh 21
Mary Walsh 18

On the Royal Standard that arrived 29th Dec 1865
James Walsh 40
Walter Walsh 37
Martin Walsh 32
Michl Walsh 20
Philip Walsh 20
Bridget Walsh 12
Walter Walsh 7

Unfortunately it is impossible to tell who was travelling together without looking at the actual passenger list.
