Just looked on a map and it’s only about 7 miles from Caton so it could be the place. I checked Bentham parish registers in IGI and found a birth there that would fit my ancestor,but unfortunately she has a common name (Thompson) so without further details I can’t be sure.

Think I've solved this - apparently Atherton used to be known as Bent. Further details can be found here:

Hi... there is a Bent near Shuttleworth, Ramsbottom. I think it was called Brown Bent but never heard it mentioned for years.
