Bent in Lancashire

Recently I received a copy of a birth/baptismal record of my 3x great-grandfather William Gibson Burns (1801), from the Oldham Local Studies and Archives, which was greatly appreciated.   The names of my 4x great grandparents finally surfaced: Joseph Burn and his wife Mary, of the Bent.  I am curious as to where or what "the Bent" refers.  Googling hasn't been very successful.  Anyone have any idea as to what this phase meant?

Where did the baptism take place? That may help uncover "of the Bent"

The baptism reads as follows:

William Gibson, the son, and Mary, the Daughter of Joseph Burn, Basket Maker, and Mary, his wife,  of the Bent, in Oldham were born February 6th, 1801, both baptised Feby 22, 1801. By J. Bunting.

Also I was reading some information about the Peterloo Massaacre and came across the name of a person who was noted as coming or living in Bent.   So it seems it is indeed a place, tho I can't locate it.

Hi, I think there was a place called "Bradley Bent" somewhere near the canal at Hollinwood - but don't take this as fact!!

Hi, did you get any further with finding this place?  I have an ancestor whose birthplace in the 1851 census is recorded as “Lancashire Bent”.  Unfortunately, she was dead before the 1861 census and her birthplace in 1841 was recorded as outside Lancashire!  She was married in Caton near Lancaster, but I can’t find any villages near Caton that would fit.

There's probably quite a lot of places in Lancs called Bent. An area of haslingden for instance is called bent gate.

Possibly short for Bentham in this instance? Up the road from Caton, but just over the border in Yorkshire so there would be scope for confusion over birth county

Yes Sunshine.... Bradley Bent was an area near the canal between the Roxy and the end of Broadway...I think also that nearby was  Help The Poor Struggler
