Hi All,

I am trying to find the marriage of Helen Susan Diamond to Henry John Bradley also known as Harry married about 1950/1960.   Both Helen and Henry were from Ireland.

I would be very grateful of any help with this

Thanks for all your help

Kieran

Hi Kieran,

Do you know which parish church this couple attended? That might be the best way to find a marriage record. I didn't see a marriage / wedding announcement for them in the New York Times.

Here is information about obtaining a NYC marriage record, year 1930 to present:

per the City Clerk of New York - Marriage License Bureau:
"Each certified copy of a marriage certificate costs $10.00. The first one-year search costs $5.00. A search for a
second year costs an additional $1.00 and searches for any additional year after the second year cost an additional 50
cents each. For example a four year search and one certified copy would cost $17.00".
from ...
http://www.cityclerk.nyc.gov/downloads/pdf/mail_in_request_form.pdf

There are strict rules about who can receive the information (for those years), which is on the .pdf mail-in form.

I hope this helps a little.

Kate

Thank you very much for your reply.  I have tried ordering up things from here before and they were a bit of a nighmare because I live in Ireland.

Is there any indexs that can be looked up in the USA?

Hi Kieran,

With all the research you have already done in the USA, think you must be aware of https://familysearch.org/ and the record collections that are available in the USA - https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1&region=UNITED_STATES

Have mentioned many times there are no BMD indexes in the USA, as in the UK, what is available varies County to County and State to State.

What ages are Helen and Harry, are they still alive ?

Sorry couldn't be more helpful.  :(

Kieran,

I can imagine the difficulties you must encounter trying to locate information from overseas.

One thing I failed to mention is that there are some people with subscriptions to archival newspaper databases, which are more extensive. Those charge a monthly fee for access I believe. I have a few historical newspapers via my public library and a genealogy company. In many instances it only covers certain time frames and newspapers in the states, with a few int'l newspapers. There certainly were other newspapers in NY City and the boroughs in the 1950s & 1960s. The NY Herald comes to mind. Otherwise, some major metropolitan newspapers are on microfilm, but without a particular date, the search for a wedding article would be labor-intensive, to say the least .

Sandra is correct that many vital record indices vary from state to state through a patchwork of varying laws, rules and policies regarding privacy & confidentiality issues.

A major index is the Social Security Death Index. However it is helpful to have the person's birth date (or approximate) to corroborate that you have the correct person. Armed with that information, it then is possible to try to locate an obituary for that individual in hopes to discover family details.

Kind regards,
Kate

Thought these names seemed familiar -  we had a couple of those names on the Diamond thread in June 1910, is it the same couple you are asking about  ???
