Derby 1700s Houghtons help
« on: Sunday 13 May 12 16:15 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to take my family history back further. Having passed thro Ilkeston I've this record,
1748 21Aug Marriage  John Houghton to Hannah Bennett at St Peter Derby Film 455138.
I can't find any christening in Derby and I'm not sure this record necessarily means the family lived there. Many of the records at Matlock for this era are virtually illegible. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

There are a number of Houghton Marriages at St. Peters, Derby.  These appear in the Phillimore Derbyshire
Marriages.  You can now view these:-

https://familysearch.org/

When page open select Books  (in blue nr. top of page)

next page click on Family History Books

enter  Phillimore Derbyshire Marriages

When results appear scroll down to V6
Volume 6 included St. Peter's Derby, Normanton, Osmaston, Alvaston, Willington, Chellaston and Kirk Langley.

Any christenings this early will probably only have a Father's name, so difficult to judge if you have correct family.
There are also Houghtons in Wirksworth, which may be worth a look  www.wirksworth.org.uk

Thanks for the suggestion Spendlove. This has turned up two marriages I haven't seen before, 30Dec1727 & 13Aug1733, even though I have looked at Phillimore, St Peter before on a different site.
