Anyone any idea if this is a miltary uniform?
« on: Sunday 13 May 12 12:01 BST (UK) »
Hi I wonder if you can help?  My grandfathers step dad we think served prior to WW2 and perhaps even in WW2 and I wondered how I go about finding out if there is a service record?  Will the MOD tell me if there is a service record?

I did the same for my grandad but in his case I KNEW he served.  The person I am looking for is Eric Leonard Rolfe born Henley in 1905 and he married my great grandmother Isabella Ward on 27th September 1947 in West Ham and died on 18th July 1968 in Stepney.  Basically all I am looking to know is are there any records for him and if so I will follow the normal process and look at ordering them.

The only photo I have of him in a uniform is

With his age he is too young for WW1 and in the photo he looks maybe too young for WW2

Can anyone help?

Steven

The cap badge looks like Royal Artillery, and the uniform probably WW1 to late 1930s.  There is a date which others will be able to confirm, about 1920.  If your man served after that date his records will be held by the MoD, and have to be applied for, and paid for.
