Hiya Mike
If I'm not mistaken pre 1837 marriage records doesn't state the fathers name wether they have one or not, but its not to say that the witness James Bairstow isn't her father. The records don't look like modern ones where there is space for the fathers name and occupation.

Hi Mike,

Sorry but my cd is for years 1754 - 1812, therefore Mary's baptism isn't there.  If you'd like me to look at any births, marriages or deaths within those years please ask, I'm happy to help where able to.

Hi Libby

Many thanks for looking - I'll have to see where I can get access to those records.

Best wishes

Mike, the West Yorkshire records on Ancestry have images of the original documents, not just transcriptions like FindMyPast. If you have ancestors from the area you really need to get access - your local library or family history centre, either run by a local family history society or the LDS, may be able to help.

Otherwise you could take out a subscription. Ancestry have fairly frequent trial offers as well, which require you to sign up but you can cancel within the time period and not be charged.

Thanks Anne

The Ancestry idea is a good one, and I could blitz it in a trial period. Of course the temptation would be to renew the subscription, which is what they want after all!

I think it's not a matter of renewing after the trial period, it's remembering to cancel before they take a subscription!

I wouldn't be without it myself.

This doesn't answer the original question but I thought you might be interested in this website. There are quite a few Bairstows buried at Mount Zion, Ogden, (including some of my ancestors), and you can search for them here.

Very interested, thank you Maggie. I do know that Mary's descendants were non-conformists, so they may well have belonged to the Zion baptists. I'll add this to the list of things to do!
