Many of the 19th C registrs are at the Sydney private library where volunteers help out.   Ferguson Library near Central Station Sydney on the Surry Hills side... They will need the clergyman's name AND exact date as well as the info that is on that existing c .

Cheers JM.

Also you will need the 1884 mc to 'advance' back when asking for volunteers to look up parish registers for any denomination... <$20 gets official transcript by email v certified certificate perhaps with insufficient info $30 to $39 by snail mail

Re 1889 mc.... Have you checked with the Sydney HQ Presbyterian Archives?

Cheers JM

Yes different.   am on e reader so cant do links.

Mr Google is your friend.... google: Presbyterian   Ferguson Library Sydney NSW that should help.  They hold some of  the registers of parishes closed before the formation of the Uniting Church and also sometimes the C19 registers that were full and replaced by new ones.  Also  may have the particular clergymans diary even.  Sometimes that diary if extant may also have clues in the several weeks before the marriage !

At this link is an indexed transcription of historic records for a Thomas Garret born 14 April 1865 at Heidelberg, Vic to a Michael Garret and Ann Walsh.
https://www.familysearch.org

I wonder if the online index for VIC birth registrations has this as Thomas DEVITT, son of Michael DEVITT and Anne WALSH, birth at Andersons Creek, Vic in 1865 (ref 6153)....

The Michael DEVITT/DAVITT & Anne WALSH/WELSH have several other children registered to them born at Andersons Creek (now known as Warrandyte) in Victoria.
They are never shown as GARRET in any of the VIC BDM registry indexes.
Probably another transcribing error on Family Search, one of many I have reported lately  ::)
