Denmark: Niels Olsen (b. Copenhagen circa 1833)

Could you perhaps, help find Niels Olsen for me?

All i have is Birth Copenhagen 1833 + or - 2
 May be left via Hamburg aboard ship Oscar Vidal to Victoria Australia circa 1852.
Another Clue could be his male children were named Charles, Anton, and Erasmus, (could be family names)

Hi Carl,

I've split your message off to make a new topic.

Since the name "Niels Olsen" is very common and Copenhagen has multiple parishes, it would be difficult to know if you have the right person.  Even just a search on familysearch.org , which by no means would have all records indexed, turns up a large number of possibilities.

Do you have his marriage and death records from Australia? (may give some indication of parents' names).

                 Thanks for your responce, Niels arrived in New Zealand from Australia in 1863.
             I have his death and marriage certs. but alas no clues as to his past.
                  Plenty on his future, and that of his wife Francis Brown though.

Is there no father's name given on the marriage certificate? If not you are probably going to have to go through a lot of records and try and trace what happened to the different Niels Olsens born at that time. If there is no father's name he was either born out of wedlock or was orphaned and did not know his parents name.

You might find it more useful to use a Danish forum to get help. For example the Danish DIS forum

You need to write all the relevant information you have even if it is negative eg. no parent's name given on marriage certificate if that is the case.

                                     I don't know why ?? but i didn"t even think of those two possibilities  . (May be that could be the answer). Thank you to, for the forum site.
      Who knows?, may be some day, some one in Denmark will be looking for an OLSEN who left for the Southern Seas in the 1850s
