McCann,s of Tyrone
« on: Thursday 15 September 11 00:30 BST (UK) »
I,m searching for the parents of My GG G/father Patrick McCann who came to Scotland and Married Ann Boyle in 1874, according to 1881 census they both come from Ireland. Patrick,s father,s name is what looks like Barney McCann  on the marriage record ( I think it may be for Bernard as Patrick later had a son named Bernard) his mother is named as Rosa McCreehan, but on Patrick,s death record the name is recorded as McCrechan. I always beleived they came from the North of Ireland, any help appreciated.

I  am trying to find the parents of my G/G/father Patrick McCann who Married Ann Boyle in 1874 in Scotland,Patrick,s parents were Bernard McCann (maybe called Barney) and Rosa McCrehan, although that name was spelled differently on Patrick,s marriage record.
Ann Boyle,s parents were John Boyle and Rosa Colton.

I have traced all these family names, from various sources to around the Lissan area, but I can,t find  a marriage as yet between Patrick,s parents or Ann,s Parents.

Patrick was born 1850 and Ann 1855, so their parents may have been married 1840,s-1850,s, I tried variations of the name McCrehan while looking for a marriage, any ideas on how to go forward with this.

I assume the family were RC. RC marriages are only on the statutory registers from 1.1.1864 onwards. Prior to that you need to look up the parish records. You say the families came from Lissan. Copies of the Lissan RC registers are held in PRONI, Belfast and the marriages cover the years 1839 – 1880, plus some fragments for 1822 – 1830. These records are not on-line anywhere as far as I know and so you would either need to look them up in PRONI or get someone to do that for you.

Hi,
I cannot find the parent's marriage but I noticed that in Lissan Roman Catholic Church there are several marriages where the name is McCreighan, including one of a Patrick McCann to a Mary McCreighan on 27 Sept 1851.
