Burnley stationer 1819
« on: Sunday 06 May 12 03:34 BST (UK) »
The Gilbertson branch of my family is said to have come from Burnley (via IOM). I have found the following in 'A Sketch of Burnley Seventy Years Ago' by James Grant December 6th, 1887
http://www.daleeccles.net/burnley_in_1818.htm

Mr. Gilbertson, stationer, occupied the premises under "the Blue Clock," ...

Is it possible to find out the names of the proprietor/s of this business? If I knew the first names of Mr Gilbertson the stationer I might be able to determine whether he belongs on my family tree.

Thank you
Livia

Thank you. I haven't come across a Susannah, but we have more Thomases than we need. From earlier enquiries I had three children of  a Walker Gilbertson and Margaret Coffey who were married in London in 1819:

Thomas 23/4/20 Burnley St Peters Parish Church, father printer and stationer
James 18/4/22 Burnley
William 23/1/24 Burnley

and the family turns up in London in the 1841 census with a few more children born in London in the interim. I thought that father, Walker, being in the printing and stationery business, might have had something to do with the stationer's shop. St Peters being common to Thomas and Susannah, and to the Thomas born 23/4/20 on my list suggests geographical proximity at least.

Never give up!

That's great, I have a note somewhere that the James born 1822 on my family tree was a cabinet maker so it's probably him. And for what it's worth IGI has a record of a Susannah.
Thank you very much.
