The Cross Keys, Loppington - Completed, thank you!

In 1881 my great great grandparents were living at the Cross Keys, Loppington. He was a farm labourer, so I guess there were cottages attached to the pub. I can't find a modern reference to the Cross Keys so I assume it has gone the way of so many old pubs. If anyone has any information about this inn, I'd be very pleased to hear from you.

is it definitely Loppington?

the reason that I ask is that the Burlton inn in Burlton used to be the Cross Keys and it is only 2.5 miles from Loppington.

Mrs M.A.Woodcock was there in 1895.

As far as I know the Blacksmith's Arms and the Dickin Arms were the public houses in Loppington at that time.

Thanks - I'll check the census entry again. Burlton is another place very much on the "family map" so it's a strong contender.

In addition, there is his family plus three other families. The Jones family includes my great grandfather William, and my GG grandparents Edward and Jane. I assume these are living in cottages attached to, or just near the inn.

Looking at the original, rather than the transcript, I now see that it is the hamlet of Burlton in the parish of Loppington, so you've cracked it for me. Many thanks. 

Now I need to check out the Burlton Inn. Any excuse.

it has real ale and accommodation and I am almost certain that the signboard still has cross keys on it.

I now see that it was a coaching inn, which is great news, My great grandfather who grew up there was a groom, and later a coachman. I'd like to bet that he was a stable lad at the inn first.

I am researching family and wondered if my jones were connected to yours?
I am researching the wife of William PROPHET b 1837 Mucklestone - son of Aaron and Martha PROPHET - other siblings George , John and Martha.
I have worked out that he married Jane JONES b1837 Kinnerley. 

I have a copy of the marriage certificate for William PROPHET and Jane JONES.

They were married on 25/2/1867
Both residence Burlton
William PROPHET is a joiner and Jane JONES is a spinster
Jane JONES' father Edward JONES is listed as a blacksmith
Witnesses - Rob and Elizabeth BAKER
I would like to find out more about Jane JONES and her father Edward JONES
I have a old photo of a pub called cross keys but can't find the connection...

Thanks for getting in touch. As you will have found already, there were a lot of Edward and Jane Joneses in that area!  I don't recognise those other names immediately but I will have another look at my tree and see if they might fit in there somewhere. I'm intrigued by the Cross Keys connection though. Could you scan the picture and post it here to see if it might be the same place?

Sorry I never replied . I forgot to check etc and just realised. I can’t seem to add the photo but if you google cross keys kinnerely the black and white images with post it notes will come up on another thread in images . I think it’s been build on the front of the original building but not local to the area it’s tricky for me to tell.
I am sure we have a Baker as a witness on a certificate but I need to dig through and check.
