McDaid - Illies
« on: Tuesday 01 May 12 15:02 BST (UK) »
Ellen McDaid married William Mcdaid , both families from the Illies in 1899.

I am trying to trace what family Ellen came from , i.e. her parents . Their nickname was the "follies" ?

Thank you.

Her father may have been patrick , I am only making this assumption as this was the name of the second male child born.

Hi, I can see the Civil marriage of Ellen McDaid =William McDaid 1898 not 1899 Buncranna Civil Parish, for this marriage Ellen's fathers name was John McDaid, Williams father was also called John McDaid, this marriage is also recorded at Buncranna RC Church but parents are not recorded in this record

9 John McDaids recorded in the Illies DED in the 1901 Census

THank you very much. John as her parent sounds right as the first male child was John which covers both parents. The first female child born was Mary Ann which was the name of Williams mothers, the second female child was Kate (Catherine) . So possibly her parents John McDaid married to Catherine ?.
By any chance do you know the date in 1898 they were married ?  Thank you.

Hi, I think Ellen's mother could be either Mary or Catherine, there were 2 Ellen McDaids christened Buncranna Civil Parish in 1877, both had a father named John McDaid, one had a mother called Mary the other had a mother called Catherine

Sorry don't have a precise date for the marriage of Ellen and William but it was the first quarter 1898 Jan-Mar Vol 2 page 149

Regards

I now have their marriage record and I think this is her family above BUT the wife has died so no name !  Witness on the marriage record is McKenna and McCallion.  Unfortunatley the cjilldren on the 1901 census are outside the years covered by Family search  >:(

Hi, for this family mother was Catherine, Patrick's birth registered 1883 Buncranna CP, father John, mother Catherine, Bridget 1884 same details and Rose 1886 again same details, looks like Ellen's mother was Catherine McLaughlin

This couple John McDaid = Catherine McLaughlin married in 1873 page Vol 17 page 131 of the civil register, Buncranna, Catherine's father was  John McLaughlin, Johns father was Owen McDaid

Hi, my grandfather was William Mc Daid from the Illies, he married Margaret Hegarty from Buncrana, is this the same Mc Daids?, it would be great to find out a bit about their history
