Skype
« on: Tuesday 01 May 12 13:47 BST (UK) »
My laptop has an inbuilt video camera, both Skype and my laptop tell me that my video camera is working correctly, but when I call my daughter although I can see her, she cannot see me.

Also when I try to alter things on Skype, I keep getting a pop-up box saying "invalid port"

Any help please?

Can you see a picture of yourself in a small screen when you're in a Skype call ?

When I had a similar problem, it was the settings on the recipients PC which needed adjusting. Can your daughter use Skype successfully with other callers?

I was about to ask a similar thing - have you tried a Skype video call with anyone else ?   Sometimes the person at the other end may not have enough broadband speed to see video.

Ah I see.  Will contact her this evening and ask.   Thank you both.

If daughter uses a broadband dongle, probably not enough bandwidth.

We did get ours working after a few goes though

What does it mean by "invalid port"

It probably means that you are trying to assign a camera to Skype that isn't physically there.  If you're seeing a photo of yourself on the Skype screen, then there is nothing wrong with your camera setup.
