Can also see a couple of possible City Directory entries.

1932 - Los Angeles Directory Co.'s Los Angeles City Directory - Geo E Cawkwell.  48 th Street -  Suppv Bway Dept Store  r 1106  W 48

1947 - Pacific Directory Company's Baldwin Park and Covina (California) City Directory.

Geo E Cawkwell - wldr  -  h418 E  Ramona  B P

The 1940 Census is in the process of being indexed at the moment, so is only searchable if you know the enumeration district George would be in  - details on the link below

Do you know what information would be on naturalization papers of 1898? would they give place and date of birth and parents names?

regards

HI Dinkey,

Not sure this will help you, can only give an opinion on what I have come across myself. Some of the early naturalization index cards -  show the birth date, age, title and location of the District Court, dates of naturalization, address, occupation, nationality, port of arrival and names and addresses of witnesses.

There is a family tree entry on Carrie V Arnold but unfortunately it goes no further back than her parents Joseph and Emma. Carrie married Edward Charles Heidt.

The WW1 Draft for Joseph also shows him living 702 Leonard Street (same as the 1920 Census) It also gives a birth date for Joseph Arnold  of 22 October 1873. Says he is naturalized and names his wife Mrs Emma Arnold of the same address. Present occupation was publisher. Cannot read the name of the company.
Dated September 12 th 1918.

Hi dinkey,

Have you tried www.mundia.com - it is a sister site of ancestry and should give access to the trees.
It really gave very basic information - Joseph Arnold 1875 England  ???
The 1900 Census showed Joseph born October 1873 Germany  and Emma June 1873 with Frank R Klaus and Lena Klaus, Joseph was described as brother-in-law and Emma - sister-in-law.

Hi Dinkey,

I think the answer to where Joseph was born is Liverpool. England.
There is an article in the Long Island State Journal  - Thursday December 8th 1949 - just put carrie heidt in to the search engine and it will come up for you. Also mentions the married names of the other daughters.

http://www.fultonhistory.com/flash_ok.html

This is some of the article - Services will be held 2 pn tomorrow for Joseph Arnold aged 76 years, former Greenpoint Newspaper Owner and Publisher in the Conway Funeral Home at Northern Boulevard and 83 rd High Street. Jackson Heights.
Burial Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn.
Joseph died Tuesday at the home of daughter Mrs Kathryn Gerner, 82 24 Northern Boulevard. Jackson Heights where he had lived since 1938. He was b orn in Liverpool. England. etc etc
He was also the father of the late Mrs Carried Heidt and Mrs Dorothy Watts.
