l have applied for the National Archives postal request for my ancestor,s service records,he retired in 1802 aged 48 yrs  and served in the 31st Foot Regiment ,he was born in Horsley Derbyshire England.please could you help me ,when a soldier retires would there be anywhere they could go to for social activities and would they receive their pension on a weekly or monthly basis,or would it be a lump sum?

would there be records of drawing out a pension and beloning to a social club of somekind?looking forward to your reply. ;D

Pensions were paid quarterly in arrears.

Applying for service records to the National Archives is usually a waste of time. Records of this period are filed on microfilm, and they will not look on a roll for a single set of records. Most are now on Findmypast anyway. If you post his name, or a link to where you found them, someone will help you find them on Findmypast, and you can download them for a few credits.

hi ,i have looked at hundreds of Chelsea pensioner records, and have never found any reference to where a pension is paid, the amount, yes,,but not where. If you post his name and when and where born,we can have a look and see if his pension/service record is on FindMyPast.  ;)

Good evening,

They should be able to tell you here, they originally dealt with all pensions for the army.
