OTT Family from ZELL Help needed please

I'm helping a friend with his german research and am making hard going of it despite reading a lot of the info you have all posted.  My friends grandfather was Josef OTT b. 22nd June 1917 in Zell, and who died 13 Sept 1944 in Italy. I believe he was in a special tank regiment, but thats it. Oh, and his wifes name was Maria.
I would really appreciate some help with this one!

Hello,
Josef Ott, born 22. 06. 1917, was buried at the German military cemetery "Futa Pass", 40 km north of Florence, grave-number: Block 42 Grab 618. He died or was missed in action the 13th Sept 1944. He was Obergefreiter (Senior Lance-Corporal). His birth town is not mentioned.

His name appears on the war memorial in the churchyard at Zell (Neuburg an der Donau).

There are two OTTs from Neuburg-Zell in the Bavarian army records from the First World War on Ancestry: the brothers Johann and Josef.
Johann was born at Zell on 9/2/1886, was a farmer, and was unmarried.
Josef was born at Zell on 7/12/1887, was a master carpenter by trade, married to Ursula nee EISENHOFER with 1 child.
The parents of both were Mathias OTT (farmer in Zell) and Kreszenz nee HAUBER.

I think there's a good chance that Josef and Ursula are the parents of your friend's Josef Ott.

That is marvelous information - thank you so much!  Do you have any idea how Josefs birth certificate could be ordered? It would be so good to confirm that Josef and Ursula were his parents.
