Richardsons from Longtown / Kirkandrews Upon Esk
« on: Tuesday 24 April 12 22:13 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am seeking to confirm my 3x Gt Grandfather John Richardson, birth and marriage details.Would also like to trace his parents too  :)

Census records state he was born 1801, Longtown, Cumberland. I haven't found the exact record as yet, also, I have been given the date of marriage as 22 Nov 1835, at Kirkandrews Upon Esk, Cumberland, to Elizabeth Slater b1811 in Carlisle, Cumberland. Have yet to find records to confirm this.

Their children, all born Kirkandrew Upon Esk, Cumberland, were:

Mary b1835 - m - James Garlick b1833

Thomas (my 2x Gt Grandfather) b1833 - m 1860 Arthuret, Cumberland, Ellen b1874

Joseph b1841

George b1844

Mary b1848 - m - ? Graham

Elizabeth b1849

Ann b1855

John b1856

All help in tracing any info, is very much appreciated.

Thank You for looking.

Happy Hunting

Carolyn  :)

This is a long shot but I do believe in coincidences.

At the moment the posting alongside this Richardson one is for Isaac Moses and there is a link to some documents for sale concerning the Moses Family of Fenton.  There is also another bundle of documents for sale for the Charlton Family of Kirklinton (very close to Longtown) where the testator leaves money to his neice, Elizabeth Richardson. It says:

[Charlton of Kirklinton and Stamwix]  Bundle of Paperwork
A small bundle of papers concerning James Charlton who died in 1882.   The papers include the probated copy of his will, the bill for his coffin, the bill for his funeral and several legacy papers.  There's also paperwork concerning his brother Stephen [d1877] and his neice Elizabeth Richardson.  Interesting lot, 14 items, mostly multi-paged.  (ref 139/14)  £20.00 post-free    Not for export

Thank You clearly for that information.

I didn't know that site existed ! I have sent an email to them, to see if the bundle is still available to buy. I'm like you, I believe in coincidences, I've found loads of my ancestors by taking long shots in the dark, they do have a habit of springing suprises in odd places, make it more fun.  :D

Will be fun to find its the same Elizabeth as mine  :)

Thanks again for the heads up on this.

Happy Hunting

I wonder if we have a connection, Carolyn.

I have some Richardson ancestors from the Kirkandrews -on-Esk/ Arthuret/ Longtown and Kirklinton areas.

The closest John Richardson I have in my tree was baptised at Kirkandrews -on-Esk in 1806 and is a brother of one of my ancestors. However, he did have at least one uncle whose decendants I haven't traced, perhaps your John is a cousin to my John.

Next time I go to the records office in Carlisle, I must remember to look for your John's marriage record, it might give details of his father and witnesses.

Regards,

Katrina
