Asking Etat civil in switzerland for marriage.
« on: Monday 23 April 12 22:23 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone, recently i contacted Etat civil in Neuchatel, Switzerland and asked for parents of someone. I did ask about the parents but Im not sure they understood because they replied in french and just gave me names of the parents. Can anyone find any information like marriage date and place and parents of "Jean Frédéric Pfisterer" and "Anna Elisabeth Frey"? Any information about them would be great, even the children they had. I am 100% sure they had a child named Paul Antoine Pfisterer in 1885

If not, could you construct some french for me please to ask them for the information please?

Thank you  :)

How about using the letter writing guide here: https://www.familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/France_Letter_Writing_Guide
or one of the others on the web.
Good luck

Hi  FairyTaz

Do you have the birth entry for Paul Antoine Pfisterer?
If not you should ask first for that at the Etat civil in Neuchâtel.
After that you can ask for the marriage entry of his parents.
But it would be more successful if you knew more dates/facts.

If they married before 1876 (or was it 1874?) you can only
find them in the churchbooks. They should be in the State
Archives of Neuchâtel in Neuchâtel. But I don't know if they
do researches for people who can't come to the Archives.

I'm not sure if you can obtain names and dates of Pauls siblings
at the Etat civil because the personal data protection laws in
Switzerland are very strict. You often have to prove that the
persons you are researching were your ancestors in a direct line.

By the way I think the surnames Pfisterer and Frey both don't
came originally from the french speaking part of Switzerland.

For researches in Switzerland the place of citizenship (Bürgerort)
of a family is very important. Sometimes in the citizen communities
(Bürgergemeinden) there are books of the families (Bürgerbücher)
who where or still are citizens of this places. There are written
whole families with all children many generations back.

Svenja
