George I have just noticed that you state Nella was born 1902. 

What was her age on the marriage certificate please? 

If she was born in 1902 that certainly puts a spanner in the works. Initially you were seeking birth details between 1900 and 1910.  Her age on the marriage certificate is important to validate what I have found.

I have just tried posting/attaching  the Marriage Certificate, but it didn't work.

However her age is either 25 or 28, it is very hard to read.

If there is any other way to get the Cert, to you please tell me how.

Do NOT post the image of the whole document Copyright issues for RChat.  Cando offline at the moment.  Instead try taking a snip of that section from your scanned image of the doc so that Cando can see THAT snipped image.  You give the jpeg snipped image a different file name and attach that to your reply.

Well if Nella actually knew her true dob and was being honest about it, taking into account she was marrying a man aged 25 years, it couldn't have been her with Madame WENDLANDT on the Jun 1901 passenger list.  Perhaps it was her birth mother.  Adoptions prior to 1928 were informal as legislation wasn't passed until c1928 [from memory].    I note that Nella had the same occupation as her 'mother'.  Nella was living at the same address as her husband at the time of their marriage.

Bernard WENDLANDT was reported as being in Tasmania in 1927.   I wonder if he was responsible for the news snippet about his mother which included information about himself.

There is a file on NAA which includes a letter written by Bernard from London re the reinstatement of German nationals property in New Guinea.

After our adoption, my brother and I were borought up in the slums of Prahran in Victoria, [at least they were those days],  and our Primary School education from grades 1-6, were at Hawksburn State School.

Our grade 5 teacher who taught Arithmatic was a teacher by the name of Ms Helen Gill, bit of a coincidence.

just came across this thread, My Husbands Grandmar is Nella Wendlandt  she married Cyril Vincent,   this is the first he has heard that she is adopted will have to go throw paperwork to see what i can find. the shame of this husband mother passed away only a few weeks ago could have asked her what she knew about her mother
