Hi everyone,

I have been researching my mothers side of the family recently and am trying to write a book. Her name was Norah Johnson and she served in the WAAF during WW2.

The information I have so far is :
At the 1891 census Arthur Johnson, occupation Dairyman aged 23 was resident at 6 Vale cottages, Vicarage Lane, Bowden, Cheshire with his wife Harriet Johnson ms Berry. With them was daughter Edith aged one year. Both Harriet and her daughter Edith were born in Altrincham. Norman Edgar Johnson (my grandfather) was born on 3 December 1892.

At the 1901 census we find George Lovitt, aged 37, occupation Baker, as head of the house with his wife Harriet aged 30, Edith aged 11 years, Norman 9 years and Ethell Lovitt aged 1 Year. Also living in the house was William Berry, Harriett's brother.

From this information we can assume that Arthur Johnson (my ggf) died between 1892 and 1901 and Harriet remarried.

My mother, Norah Johnson married William Wilson (RAMC) in the Methodist Chapel, Bank Street, Altrincham 0n 17/12/1949.

I hope this is of some help in your search.
I came up against several brickwalls before I finally found what I was looking for. Persevere.

Johnson, Cunningham, Lovitt, Winsor - Altrincham
Wilson, Robertson, McKinnell, - Edinburgh
Smith - Bowdon

Hi everyone and especially Nick
You won't believe this, or maybe you will.  After 8 long years my relative Karl and I have now found our elusive Bowyers.
They were in fact under the name Garner on the 1861/71 census living with their father Robert Garner.  I sent for my great grandfather George Harry 'Garner's and his brother John Garner's birth certs last week and low and behold their mother was Fanny Garner formerly Bowyer!
We are assuming both boys were illigitimate and it was the law to put their mother's maiden name on their marriage certs hence both boys becoming Boyer/Bowyer from then on.  My Grt Grandfather was called George 'Henry' Bowyer until he died, and his daughter my Gran was Jessie Bowyer.
Now we cannot find Fanny Garner formerly Bowyer anywhere so it might be another eight long years before we find her! :-\
Ah well back to the drawing board  :)

Kind regards
Su
