It may pay to contact  Child,Youth and Family's adoption unit nearest to where he was born and make inquiries through them.

Hi All,

I'm going to try and give a brief background to the story, as following the other thread seems to be quite confusing.

My mother in law was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, she was put into foster care in infancy, the only clue we had was from her birth certificate, was her mother, Marabel Hartley Webster, no father stated.

Marabel Hartley Webster Palmerston North, MWT, New Zealand on the 19th July 1908 (It states New Zealand and the DOB on her death certificate) to parents Richard and Ethel (m.s. Jenkins) Webster.

Ethel was born 1879 in NZ (Reg No: 1879/16466) they married 1907 (Reg No: 1907/2388) she gave birth to a baby NR 1910 (Reg No: 1910/13724) which died 4 days later (Reg No: 1910/4907) as a result of this Ethel died 2 weeks later (Reg No: 1910/4929).

Richard Webster was born In England around 1885, moved to NZ in the early 1900's, after Ethel's death left NZ on the Ionic arriving in Sydney Australia on 6th May 1916, there's no evidence of Marabel travelling with him. He also married again in NZ around 1912.

I could not confirm Marabel's birth from your BDM historical site, so a friend on another thread searched the microfiche and found her details were correct, he also contacted BDM to ask why she was not shown on their BDM site, it was after a few e-mails back and forth that it was found that it was not shown as she had been adopted.

I hope this helps clarify the situation.

Thanks

Bryan

If you know where the person was adopted, apply to the District Court of that district for all the papers relating to the adoption. The matter will go before a District Court Judge who will decide if the information can be released. It helps if a close relative applies.Takes about 4-6 weeks. The information will disclose who was making the application to adopt. I have done this successfully.

Hi Big guy,

Thanks for that. I know the district she was in when she was born, but have no clue as to the district she was adopted in, if I can find that out I can certainly get my mother in law to do the application, don't know how feasable that is, given that we're on the other side of the world, but if it could be done electronically I'd give it a go!

I've had a bit of a Eureka moment yesterday, a friend found Marabels entry into England named as Marable Webster aboard the ship ARAWA port southampton. from new zealand 24 march 1922 aged 13 address given as the stamford arms bowdon cheshire, this is the pub that her grandparent's owned! Everthing fits that this is her, age place and name, only trouble I have is how an adopted 13 year old gets away from adopted parent's, and is back to her birth name. This is making me think that she was adopted to relatives on Ethel Jenkins side, it's the only rational theory I can come up with at the moment.

Cheers

Bryan

Palmerston North NZSG school index showed no Marabel
although not all schools yet indexed..could have been at Catholic

for reference: West End School would be the closest to Jospeh St if they were still living in that area
