How to find an adopted person's adoption name

Hi,

When a person has been adopted, and only the natural birth name is known, how can the new adopted name be found?

I don't think you will find it, unless that person is searching for their birth family. There is an organisation that connects families, if you register the birth name, date of birth, and name of birth mother.
So sorry the name of that group escapes me at the moment. I had success a few years ago, so good luck. Please keep in mind reunions don't always have a happy ending, but I wish you well.

The person I'm researching is my mother in law's mother (whom she put into foster care in infancy) who is no longer with us. If your interested  I have a post headed "Marabel Hartley Webster, Richard Webster, Ethel Jenkins" you would get the full story there.

Hi Adeline,

The story is in your NZ section under the heading mentioned earlier.

The person was born Marabel Hartley Webster, born Palmerston North, NZ on the 19th July 1908, the adoption took place around 1912.

She could also go under the name Maria and lived in NZ until the early 1920's.

She also had a half sister, Rona Alfreada Trinder who was adopted also, around 1912, I have adoption details on Rona, don't think it's appropriate to put it on here, but if it's of any use I could pm the details.

Your mother in law doesn't know her own mother's name.
Seems strange you have a birth name for her but not the name she grew up with and presumably made known to your mother in law.
BTW who put who into foster care?  I can't understand your post.  Sorry.

PS  I think JIGSAW only looks for living (or potentially living) people but may be wrong.
